I have been a farm girl all my life. My dad was a farmer and I married a farmer. We had seven children and live a good country life. I had always loved collies but never owned a purebred  because my husband liked hunting dogs. A collie was not his idea of farm dog, where-as I had always thought collies and the country life went together.

The year, 1998, changed everything. My husband passed away suddenly and I was left alone in my grief. I had helped him on the farm but then was pushed into retirement. I didn't know where to start rebuilding a life just for myself. I was 58 years old at the time. When one day, I noticed in the classifieds, an ad for a collie pup, I called and inquired about it. The lady said it had been the pick of the litter, but the buyer had to sell because of family situations. I bought him and gave him the name of Sweet Honeysuckle Laddie. My dream had come true. I had Laddie for a year when he was in an accident. My heart was broken but life had to continue without him.

I was widowed for three more years and during that time I had dogs of different breeds, but none compared with my collie, Laddie. When I married my new husband, I expressed to him my desire to raise collies. I wanted others to experience the joy and contentment of having a companion like laddie.

It's too late in life for me to get involved in showing collies but I appreciate the breeders in my collie's history for their efforts in producing champions. My dream now is that someone in my family will grow to love collies as I do and that the name Rose Ridge Collies will become synonymous with the collie future.

Our collie's world spreads over a hundred acres. We raise our dogs in a farm atmosphere, and, at times they are allowed to explore on their own. We put our collies in their pens ar night and when we are away, the rest of the tim they are with us as we go about our daily work or leisure. We have riding horses, miniature horses, cattle, poultry and cats. Our collies are well socialized with all the animals. True to their nature, they may chase a cat once in a while, all in fun. Later you may see the cat and dog lying together taking a snooze. It's a harmonious way of life, good for us, as well as our animals.

Our collies are well socialized with people. We are retired and our family visit us often. We have several grandchildren and great grandchildren so the puppies are exposed to children of all ages. Collies make good family pets.

We desire to raise collies that are beautiful, with a sweet disposition, who become wonderful pets and companions to their owners. We enjoy our collies and want others to have the same opportunity with one of their own. Once you own a collie, your life is never lonely. They are happy just to be in your presence. There is nothing quite like a loyal and faithful collie.
